Speaker Date Time Subject PD Dr. Sabine Hoidn 29.11.2022 09.15-13.00 Designing Teaching & Learning Processes Course Description This course tackles the guiding question of how instructors can design and enact high-quality student-centered learning environments (SCLEs) in their classrooms to facilitate deeper learning processes and outcomes. Thereby the course focuses on both, current discussions of what constitutes effective learning and teaching, and effective student-centered strategies and (online) tools to cognitively activate students. Learning Objectives Understand and appraise current research results on effective teaching and learning in higher education (What “good” instructors do and don’t do?); Understand what student-centered learning (SCL) is (not) and how SCL strategies (applied in lectures, seminars etc.) and (online) tools can help facilitate deeper learning processes and outcomes; Develop ideas to apply various SCL strategies and (online) tools in one’s classroom and exchange ideas and experiences with other participants; Analyze and reflect on one’s beliefs and experiences regarding student-centered as well as teacher-centered learning environments. Course Content Overview of research results on effective teaching and learning SCL strategies and (online) tools which cognitively activate students Good practices and personal insights and experiences Methodology Mini lectures, buzz groups, teamwork, discussions (content-focused and reflective), exchange of teaching experiences/insights Target Groups Suitable for persons teaching in higher education as well as for administrators in charge of course/program planning.
